Covering concrete foundations with plastic sheeting is recommended for several reasons related to the curing process. Proper curing is essential for achieving the desired strength and durability of the concrete. Plastic sheeting helps to retain moisture by reducing evaporation from the surface of the concrete. This is particularly important because if the concrete dries out too quickly, it can lead to surface cracks and weaken the overall structure.

Additionally, plastic sheeting provides a barrier against environmental factors such as wind and sun, which can exacerbate the evaporation process. It creates a humid environment around the curing concrete, promoting an even cure and allowing for better hydration of the cement particles. This results in a more complete chemical reaction, leading to a stronger and more resilient foundation.

While other options like wet burlap can also contribute to moisture retention, plastic sheeting is often the most effective and practical choice for covering concrete during the curing period.
